"ROOMBA QUEST"

The first Bitsy game that I played was “Roomba Quest” a brilliant short game about a roomba, which has to upload their consciousness to the internet. The game strongly references The Matrix in this regard, and there are multiple references to it with things that are picked up by the roomba, and in a few other instances. The game starts off in a single room with two books, a physics book and a philosophy book. The more you interact with it, the more flavor text you get, and the level to which they went with it was impressive to say the least. I probably interacted with the physics book over 20 times, as my roomba went from understanding and unlocking all there is to know to utterly crumpling the book rendering it unreadable from its vacuum. What I love here is that the quest design is unbelievably simple, most of the game revolves around humor and flavor text. You pick up various objects and interact with a couple of different npcs, but its the interactions themselves that make the game so intriguing. I found the simple premise to be remarkably deep later on as the story is really well written, all the way through the finale, as you collect bits of data to finally become sentient, and as you do you hear the sentience of other machines. It’s so Matrix through and through and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You can find Roomba Quest here.
